Freedom Shrines

FrShGrp1 Freedom Shrines are collections of beautifully mounted historic American documents. Each collection is permanently mounted at a public site, such as schools and public buildings. These collections are dedicated to the individual members of our club who sponsor the cost of the installation.

The most recent Freedom Shrine was installed at the Boys and Girls Club in East Bluff, Newport Beach, California. The Freedom Shrine was a joint donation by the Exchange Club Of Newport Beach members Bob Kinton, Steve Peterson, John Kruse, Bill Foster and Jerry Nininger, who donated $200.00 each.

At 9:00 a.m. Nicole D Deloach, the branch director of the Boys and Girls Club, opened the doors to let in the installation crew: Dr Norman Von Herzen, Past President Jerry Nininger and Alan Staniforth, Freedom Shrine Chairman. They proceeded to unload the equipment, tools and packing boxes. They went to work about 9:30 a.m. and wrapped up at 11:30, just in time for lunch.

The dedication ceremony was held at 4;00 p.m., the 30th of September, (Ladies Day at the club). We heard the children's version of what  freedom meant to them.

Milestones of Freedom

The Milestones of Freedom program is designed to enhance the Freedom Shrine site and students’ awareness of the documents included in their Shrine. Those students participating in the program first study the Freedom Shrine Documents provided by our club. Based upon their studies, the they then take a test on the material. The students receiving the three top scores are awarded a plaque and a cash prize. Designed to heighten young people's awareness of Americanism and their political heritage, the Milestones of Freedom program has been presented numerous times at our local schools.
